Creating functional yet aesthetically pleasing gardens.

Based in Southern Tasmania, Greg Koen is known for creating beautiful functional gardens. He is inspired by his global horticultural experiences, taking in influences from South Africa and the United Kingdom in his designs.

He has 20 years of experience in the industry, priding himself on his extensive plant knowledge. Greg likes to challenge the notion of ‘drought tolerant’' planting schemes by not only using Australian natives but other planting solutions that thrive in other parts of the world (with similar climates).

Greg’s passion for gardening started at a young age, in South Africa, where he looked up to his father and his gardening abilities. After finishing school he decided to move to London where he joined a passionate team who maintained and rejuvenated some of the most prestigious private garden squares in London.

He immersed himself in the horticulture world in the UK, where he was given the honour to judge for the London Garden Society as well as London In Bloom. He was also part of a highly skilled team at the Chelsea Flower Show who won gold six times in the grand marquee. In 2012, Greg had the pleasure of redesigning the famous St James Square in Piccadilly Circus which, 1 year later, won best public garden square in London.

Greg moved to Australia with his partner in 2017 and has successfully run his own garden design and maintenance business. He started off in Victoria in the Mornington Peninsula, where his passion for food production and permaculture grew, before making the move over to Tasmania in 2021 in search for a more community minded, family orientated lifestyle.
